A brand-new AC should bring your home to the setpoint, though the first day or two in Florida humidity can feel slower while the system pulls moisture out of the house. If it isn't cooling, check the thermostat settings, the filter and the vents, then call your installer. Common causes are thermostat setup, refrigerant charge, airflow, sizing and duct leaks.
A new system is a big investment, so it's worrying when the house doesn't feel cooler. Often it's a settling-in period or a setting. Sometimes it's an installation issue your installer should fix.
| Cause | Signs |
|---|---|
| Thermostat setup | Wrong mode, heat pump O/B setting, or wrong equipment type configured |
| Refrigerant charge | Weak cooling; ice on lines; long run times |
| Airflow | Weak vent airflow; blower speed set wrong; filter or return too small |
| Sizing | Never keeps up (undersized), or cools fast but feels clammy (oversized) |
| Duct leaks | Some rooms warm; existing ducts not sealed |
| Electrical or start-up issue | Outdoor unit not running |
Proper sizing uses a load calculation (Manual J), which looks at the home's size, insulation, windows and sun exposure, not just square footage. An oversized system cools quickly and shuts off before it removes enough moisture, leaving the house cool but clammy. An undersized one can't keep up on hot days. See our guide to AC unit cost by size.

Call your installer first. Most installers include a labour warranty, and a new installation problem, such as charge, airflow or thermostat setup, should be fixed under it. Have your paperwork ready: model and serial numbers, the install date and any warranty registration. Another company's work can affect warranty coverage, so check with your installer before you call anyone else.
Call your installer if the house can't reach the setpoint after a day or two, the outdoor unit isn't running, you see ice, or the house feels clammy. If we installed your system, call us at (727) 761-8873. If you're planning a new system, our estimates are free, and we're licensed and insured.
